Fire at Logum-Jini and Pasighat

Itanagar, Nov 12: Tragedy struck Logum-Jini Village of Nyiko Region when 5 residential houses were gutted down by a massive fire that broke out at around 1.30 pm yesterday.

Seven granaries were also gobbled up by the fire. The fire started from a house engulfed entire neighborhood within no time. Nothing could be salvaged from the devastating fire. Except an old man who could hardly stand on his own, all the residents were away in their agriculture fields when the incident occurred.

The old man, Bahor Ingo, 75, who was fortunately seen and evacuated to the nearby community house by a passerby, is still chanting his prayer of thanksgiving for that god sent rescuer.

The villagers, with their locally available materials and know how, could hardly extinguish the wildly behaved fire.

The area does not have fire tenders. The fire mellowed itself down before the feeble fire tending attempts of the villagers, and because of change in wind direction.

The villagers, in unison, confirmed that the fire was supposedly caused by electric short circuit. The reason must be because of under-capacity and unmaintained transformer that has been lying installed in the village for years by now.

An eye witness said “nothing is left to be seen, but only ashes, ambers and smokes. It’s a heart wrenching scenario”.

Logum-Jini, which is located at 11 kilometers away from Aalo in West Siang towards Pasighat-Yingkiong, is considered to be the first model village in the district.

The victims are being provided temporary relief by the villagers in community houses of the village.

“Since all their food, cloths and shelters have been reduced to dusts, the victims are, now, left with nothing, but at the mercy of good samaritans and well wishers from around who has come forward to help the villagers”, ‘Said Advocate Kento Jini, Chairman-in-Chief, NBF. The Nyiko Bachao Forum (NBF) strongly urged the district administration to take up the incident urgently with the State Government for extending immediate and life restoring relief measures.

The forum, also, fervently appealed to all concerned and well wishers to extend their merciful hands to the victims in any form.

The forum  hoped that Galo Welfare Society (GWS) would take up an urgent life sustaining initiative on top priority after coming to know about the carnage in one of the precious Galo villages.

In another incident at Pasighat, two Kaccha houses were burnt down this morning at Solung ground. Eleven families were residing in the houses.

One fire tender was pressed into service which took few hours to douse the blaze.

All the belongings of eleven families have been completely destroyed, said a report.

The DC (Incharge) SC Debnath, Nilima Kumar (SDO), S Jamoh (EAC) and G Tsomu (DRRO) visited the spot immediately.

Debnath sanctioned some amount as relief grant and directed the concerned officers to disburse immediately to the victims and also arrange to accommodate the victims temporarily at the Town-Club, Pasighat.

Meanwhile, local MLA Bosiram Siram in a message expressed shock over the incident and informed that concerned departments have been directed to extend all possible helps to the victims.

He has urged the police authority to keep the service vehicles fully equipped with spares and refills to meet with any eventualities.

The PHENIX Properties Ltd (NGO) Pasighat branch handed over some amount to the administration as relief measures.

Tamat Gamoh distributed blankets and mosquito-nets to the victims and USPA urged to provide adequate compensations, sources added.

On the other hand, two rooms of a bachelor barrack of Sangram PWD division were  gutted in a fire accidents affecting four families, said Nyain Sangram Phassang Students’ Union. It appealed to the state government to provide immediate relief to the victims and release fund for reconstruction of the barrack.

Rijiju clarifies his stand on Pradip Thakur issue, suggests CBI inquiry

ITANAGAR, Nov 12: Former MP Kiren Rijiju has strongly quashed the news report of linking him to Pradeep Thakur fiasco. In a crowded press conference held today at Arunachal Press Club building, Kiren while taking strong exception to such malicious news report, urged people not to politicize the sensitive issue.

Giving detailed information along with full proof documents, Kiren said, “I was deeply pained and surprised to see a statement in one of electronic (TV) channels wherein my name was unnecessarily and unreasonably dragged into the Times of India-Pradeep Thakur issue.

Recalling the entire episode of late CM Dorjee Khandu’s missing chopper incident and days after it, Kiren stated that he was so lost in search operation that he had no time to get involved in politics happening in Itanagar at that time.

“On 30th April 2011, around 11.45 AM, came information that Late CM Dorjee Khandu's helicopter is missing. The journalists of Delhi rushed to Arunachal Bhavan Delhi. As an Adviser to Late CM, I sent mass SMS at 1:54pm to all the Journalists whoever gave me their number at Bhavan that Chopper is missing and that there is no confirmation of its whereabouts.

I received lots of calls and one from Pradeep Thakur also came at 7:53:50 pm for 47 seconds only and that's the only one call I received from him,” informed Kiren. Further he added, “On 4th May from ITBP Centre Dirang, I sent the ground operation information by SMS which is updated in Times of India real-time updates and later in their website. On the same day around 10.30am information of the Chopper and body being found came. I sent en-block SMS to all journalists at 10:40am. Then whole afternoon I was at Se-la Pass trying to support the rescue team. I couldn't go to crash site due to heavy snowfall. Just below Se-la when the BSNL network was available I finally sent SMS to all at 7:22:31 pm stating about ground situation.”

In this entire duration, the former MP said that he had spoken to Pradeep Thakur only once and sent three smses that too in group to all journalists. Three smses were sent to him and it was all related to the late CM’s news, he said.

He said even in wildest dream he can never think of uttering such derogatory sentence about Nyishi tribe.

“My relation with Nyishi Community can't be questioned by anybody. My family and my Community has deepest relation with Nyishi’s from ancient time and continues to be which can be testified by all the elders of the society”.

“In fact I would urge state government to give justice to Nyishi community and I will do whatever in my capacity to help them in this regard. He called for investigation by sitting high court judge or by CBI to investigate this case,” the former MP said. Further Kiren added, “People should not damage someone’s hard earned reputation with such cheap act. In my 25 years of politics I had never used dirty means to gain publicity and in future also I will not do. H appealed everyone not to further drag his name in this issue.

Tuki calls on Chaturvedi

NEW DELHI, Nov 12: Chief Minister Nabam Tuki today called on Planning Commission of India (PCI) Member B K Chaturvedi here at Yojna Bhavan despite the weekend holidays. He discussed various aspects of developmental issues and ways the Planning Commission can intervene and contribute in making Arunachal Pradesh a prosperous state, especially through Special Plan Assistance (SPA).

The new Chief Minister sought cooperation in the form of generous financial support from the Commission to complete undergoing projects and initiate new ones. He stressed that Arunachal Pradesh, being geographically a very large state but with lesser population and difficult terrains, needs to be dealt in a special way.

Tuki pointed out that the state is comprised of hundreds of tribes and communities, who have their own distinct issues that have to be considered specifically. Dividing the state into three zones – areas along the international borders, the hilly and middle zone and the scattered plains in the foothills, he said a pragmatic approach has to be initiated in planning and implementing all welfare and developmental projects. He also viewed that considering the distinct and strategic status of the state and its people, population as the basis of implementing developmental projects has to be revised as a special case for Arunachal Pradesh.  “Keeping a minimum requirement of population as a prerequisite for implementation of central government projects and schemes has denied a full scale upsurge of developmental activities in rural areas of the state. It would be our earnest request to the Planning Commission to consider Arunachal as a special case and make considerations,” Tuki appealed.

He asserted that the state government will focus on development in a planned manner, especially in the sectors of road infrastructure, housing, drainage and electricity in all administrative circles on need basis.

In return of the Government of India’s generosity towards the state, the Chief Minister assured judicious and transparent utilization of all funds provided. He pointed the third party monitoring system in place to oversee utilization of government funds has ensured fair, transparent and judicious implementation of all projects and schemes in the state.

Giving a patient hearing, Planning Commission Member Chaturvedi assured Tuki that the Government of India will give all cooperation to see Arunachal emerge as a model state in the country.

“I am sure, with the enthusiasm of the state government and cooperation of the central government, Arunachal will become a model state in years to come. Other states of the country will then look up to it and imbibe its policies and initiatives,” Chaturvedi added.
